Governor Rick Scott recently announced that he selected Vicki Burke, the statewide founder of PACE Center for Girls 27 years ago, for induction into the Florida Women’s Hall of Fame. Governor Scott chose Mrs. Burke as one of three women from a list of ten distinguished nominees selected by the Florida Commission on the Status of Women for making significant contributions to the improvement of life for women and all citizens of Florida. "These three women exemplify what makes Florida the best place in the country to live-the quality of our people. With selfless dedication and love they have lifted countless individuals and families, and by so doing they have lifted our state as a whole," said Governor Scott.

Mrs. Burke started PACE in Jacksonville, Florida with 10 girls. As she grew the Jacksonville Center, she also led a statewide expansion to include PACE Centers in Bradenton, Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Pensacola, and Tallahassee. Today, PACE has 17 centers throughout Florida, and has helped over 21,000 young women find a pathway back to hope. PACE remains the only statewide prevention, early intervention and diversion organization in the nation focused on girls and young women. Girls who had little hope and little belief in themselves now lead productive, engaged, and fulfilling lives.

“Each year, the Women’s Hall of Fame committee must choose only ten nominees from a long list of highly accomplished women in our state. With each nomination we read, we are reminded that women are leaders in every sector of society,” stated Susanne Hebert, chair of the Florida Women’s Hall of Fame Committee. “Their dedication to their work has impacted their communities and the State in a powerful and meaningful way.”
