girls_laughing_for_newsletterA little summer fun never hurt anyone!

As a year round program, the summer gives girls a chance to really catch up on their academics.  But with the sun shining outside, sometimes it is a little hard to focus... and building relationships through fun is what PACE is all about!  Do you remember those long summer days with no responsibilities, only time to play and bond with your best friend?  Most PACE girls don't have that luxury... not only do they need to make up credits academically, but they may have the responsibility to care for siblings or their families just don't have the resources or transportation for relaxing summer activities.  PACE understands the importance of "just being a girl" and makes having a little fun a priority.

Activities were planned all summer as incentives to help keep girls motivated on their studies, and included everything from crafts and pampering days, to student led fashion shows and a trip to the pool.  These activities not only provide incentives to stay focused on academics, but teach girls how to have fun while developing positive peer interactions and decision making skills.  Of the girls served last year, over 80% live in or close to poverty, 51% come from high crime neighborhoods and 39% had run away.  The following outcome measures display the positive effect PACE has on girls' lives:

  • 90% of girls had no involvement with Juvenile Justice within a year of leaving PACE
  • 100% improved their academic performance
  • 90% remained in school or were employed three years after leaving PACE

PACE is committed to changing the lives of girls in Manatee County... one girl at a time!
